The Ferrari becomes even more amazing when you realise it was a 40s design. Ahead of its time it was, and by a landslide.

That’s one of the very few Ferrari designs that I really love.

Touring (the coachbuilder who designed the 166) has a habit of improving Ferraris.
Take the F12, a car which I don’t like the look of.
But then compare it to Touring’s version.
It looks so much better, in my opinion.

If you squint it looks a little like a Cisitalia 202 GT which was introduced in Paris in 1947 and designed by Pininfarina. Actually the first of these were built in 1946 . The Ferrari came out at the Turin show in 1948 and was designed by Anderloni who might have borrowed a little from the Cisitalia in concept being it came out in a prior year.
Most of the 166 pictures I’ve seen have been the 166mm Barchetta which was a much better looking car than the 166 coupe.
I’ve seen the Cisitalia that was on display in the MOMA years ago. A very attractive car for its age.

I love the Cisitalia. Too bad I’ve never seen it in person.
